Black Magic Designs DeckLink and UltraStudio Devices¶

FluidPrompter has native support for SDI (and HDMI) output via Black Magic Designs DeckLink and UltraStudio devices.

Connecting an BlackMagic DeckLink or UltraStudio Device¶

REQUIRED

You must have the FluidPrompter Desktop App to connect a BlackMagic video output device.

See: FluidPrompter System Requirements

  1. Plug-in your BlackMagic UltraStudio via Thunderbolt/USB4. Alternatively, if using an internal DeckLink device, install it in your system following BlackMagic’s instructions.

  1. Open the tools menu in the FluidPrompter desktop.

  1. Click “SDI Output (DeckLink/UltraStudio)”.

  1. The first BlackMagic device found will be selected automatically. To change device, open the devices dropdown.

  1. The default output mode is “1080p60”. To change the output mode, open the modes dropdown.

  1. Click “Start SDI”.

  1. You may now close the SDI output dialog.

Troubleshooting¶

Problem: Unable to find SDI hardware or drivers.
  1. Ensure your BlackMagic DeckLink or UltraStudio device is connected and powered on.

  2. If you are using an external UltraStudio device, ensure it is connected via Thunderbolt/USB4 enabled port on your computer (not all USB-C shaped ports are capable of thunderbolt or USB4).

  3. Make sure the cable being used is Thunderbolt or USB4 certified. Older USB-C cables will not support the required data bandwidth.

  4. Ensure you have installed the Blackmagic Desktop Video package which includes drivers for both DeckLink and UltraStudio devices.

  5. If necessary, restarting your computer will often fix unexplained issues!

Note: If you make system changes such as installing drivers, you may need to restart your computer and/or the FluidPrompter app.
